This handy calculator found on the FinAid.org site allows you to calculate an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is an important piece of data that generated by the FAFSA form that you fill out after January of your senior year. It tells colleges how much your family can contribute toward your college costs so that they can calculate your financial aid package. This EFC calculator provides clear explanations for all the information you must input. It's pretty detailed so plan to spend 30-60 minutes filling it out, though much of that time will be taken gathering the information it requests from your tax records, investment statements, mortgage balance, etc.
